Program Mission:
The SCARS Vision
Second Chance After Release Services (SCARS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing recidivism and empowering formerly incarcerated individuals to successfully reintegrate into society. We provide a comprehensive support system that addresses the “whole person,” focusing on stable housing, employment (job training & placement), personal finance (credit building, investments, building equity and money management), mental health assesment & referrals, life coach (to help navigate life’s obsticles), providing a pathway to entrepreneurship, and retirement planning (e.g. 401k/IRA), and the restoration of confidence & dignity.
Eligibility Criteria
To ensure our resources are directed to those most in need and most committed to the SCARS path, the following criteria apply:
General Requirements
Incarceration History: Applicants must be currently incarcerated (within 90 days of release) or have been released within the last 24 months.
Commitment to Sobriety: Participants must agree to reside in a drug-and-alcohol-free environment and participate in random screening as part of the housing agreement.
Accountability: A willingness to engage in a Personalized Re-entry Plan (PRP) and meet regularly with a case manager.
Priority Status
Priority is given to individuals who:

Are at high risk of homelessness upon release.

Have no existing family support network.

Are parents seeking to reunite with and support their children.
Intake Process

Initial Referral: Can be made by prison caseworkers, parole officers, or self-referral.

Assessment Interview: A comprehensive evaluation of the individual’s medical, vocational, and housing needs.

The SCARS Compact: Upon acceptance, the participant signs a commitment to the program’s values and milestones.
Success Metrics

Participants are considered “Graduates” of the SCARS program when they have achieved:

Six months of continuous, unsubsidized employment.

Secured permanent, stable housing.

Demonstrated consistent community involvement or mentorship of new members.
